THE ART OF DR. SEUSS
Theodor Seuss Geisel, commonly known as Dr. Seuss, is one of the most renowned children’s book authors of all time. Following his passing, most authentic illustrations were secured by his family and restricted from public viewing. Chaseart Companies, an American firm, were able to license his private artworks and create a limited quantity of prints. Establishing galleries worldwide, Melbourne’s ‘The Art of Dr. Seuss’, is one of their more recent branches that provide the general populace a chance to observe these replicas in person. However, contrary to a traditional gallery, all art is up for sale. Ranging from 200 all the way to 10,00 dollars, the gallery has surprisingly established itself as a successful art museum built solely on prints, replicas, and inspired figurines. This does beg the question… Do people care, and does it even matter if galleries display non-genuine pieces?
